YASMIN

CBI Strategy
Since the demand of second hand furniture is high, recently two more strategies are being devoloped to increase supply of second hand furniture. YASMIN is going to organize second hand furniture community where the person who interested to sell and donate their second furniture can communicate and diseminate their interest. Through this, YASMIN hope can strengthen the culture of “Selling and giving for social causes”. Second strategy is having group of volunteers that make creative marketing strategy to reach broader audiences. The volunteer will develop outreach program in supermarket where middle class families usualy go shopping to attract them selling or giving their second hand furniture for YASMIN program.
Result
Currently, YASMIN have two kindergartens, and three intermediaries school that provide schooling fee of charge to almost 240 children. In 2006, they offered scholarships to 200 students in Jakarta. This momentum has also enabled YASMIN to establish “Sanggar Belajar,” a place for specialty training for 366 young people, as well as an Autism Centre and Health and Dental Centre for the poor. YASMIN also give teacher training to 250 madrasah (Islamic boarding school) a cross Indonesia.

CBI Strategy
To manage fund from local donors, SEMASA establish “Lumbung Pendidikan” (literary means “Rice Barn for Education”). Instead used up fund for scholarship, Lumbung pendidikan give soft loan (without interest and charge only for administration fee) for education purposes. Poor family can access this soft loan for education fee, books, school uniform etc. the amount of loan is around 10 – 20 U$ within 10 months periode of payment. Through this mechanism SEMASA is able to accumalate fund and reach more children and help them obtain books and other school needs.
Result
Recently, Lumbung pendidikan can generate more than 1,500 U$ fund and able to serve 6 to 8 poor families/month to utilize soft loan for their children.

RMI-Pending has a mission to provide professional environmental education to as large of an audience as it can reach. In response, RMI-implements a variety of programs to suit the needs of specific groups, such as school children, parents from different social stratification and geographical areas (urban and rural).
CBI- Strategy
RMI-Pending’s market segmentation strategy allows it not only to educate a broad audience, but also to raise funds and resources from this diverse base of support. This wide reach enables RMI Pending to cross-subsidize its programs—using programs that have greater resources to fund other initiatives that do not, especially those that focus on lower-income citizens. RMI-Pending’s income-generation approaches, including a comprehensive tourism strategy and corporate training facilities, help cover additional costs.
Result
This strategy enables RMI-Pending to achieve its mission, as well as earn a profit from its activities. By charging fees-for-services, selling relevant products, and relying on cost-free volunteers, RMI managed to generate an income equivalent to about 5% of its budget. RMI has been able to incorporate over 20,000 people into at least one of its educational programs and reaches over 25,000 people through its radio program.

SERIKAT PEREMPUAN INDEPENDENT

Managing Local resources through volunteer training for women villagers empowerment program Women in rural areas live under social, political, and cultural presure. SPI was established to empower women to have equal right through formal and informal education, facilitation, household economics activities, social service, networking, campaign and publication.
CBI- Strategy
To implement various programs and activites, SPI gain support from self-reliant activities. The development of member contribution and voluntarism has been successfully satisfying organizational need. SPI develop strategy to maintain self-reliant values among its members and community through women training to become cadre for strengthen the self-reliant spirit.
Result
Today SPI has 475 members in 15 villages scattered in 6 sub-districts and 2 districts. Among the members there are 45 women leaders who have public position in 15 villages and has power to influence policy in village level. In the future, through support from CBI program, SPI hope to have 20 women cadres to train 1,000 women and strengthen their self-reliant activites to sustain their empowering program for women villagers.
BRENJONK
(Trawas, Mojokerto Center Java)
Developing Market Access among farmers through Healty life Style Campagn of Vertical Garden and Organic Café. Most farmers only own small land and produce limited products. Resulting in low level of farmer’s family welfare. Aside from problem of quantity and quality of products, farmers are also facing complex trading system that made farmers dependen on the existing market chain. BRENJOK (letterlly mean prosperity) was existed to facilitate farmers to be independent and help to improve the welfare of farmer’s family through developing organic farming, market access and information system to the farmers.

BRENJONK develop earned income activites to support their program. By establishing new way of utilization of land used through vertical garden and organic café, Brenjok drive healty life stye to the market and at the same time strenghen their local resources. Vertical garden is used in a way to diversify farmer’s products, while organic café is strategy to promote healty food base on production from vertical garden as well as create new end market of organic products.
Result
BRENJONK works in 4 villages with more than 60 farmers involved in their program. Brenjonk organic farming has been replicated to 18 sub districts in Mojokerto district of Center Java Province. In the future, with aggressive marketing and new café, BRENJONK try to attract more people (farmers and custumers) to get involved in their organic farming system for healthy life style.
PERHIMPUNAN REKAN ANAK INDONESIA
(Batam, Riau)
Empowering volunteer organization as supporting system for fighting the trafficking in person. Trafficking in person become most pressing problem face in Batam Island, Indonesia. Its strategic position has become focal point for trafficking activities to Singapore and other countries. PRAI was established to prevent and protect the victim through alternative education, advocacy, campagn and information collection of trafficking.
CBI Strategy
PRAI create group of professional volunters to help its activities. These professional volunteers, such as taxi drives, medical doctors, lawyers, psychologist community ethnic leaders, and artists have take part to support PRAI prevent the trafficking in Batam. The volunteers’ function as early warning system of trafficking activities and give professional help (health, conseling, legal back up) to the victim.
Result
As of septmber 2007, PRAI has succesfully rescued 17 victims (8 of them childreen) who were trafficked as illegal domestic helper, prostitute and waitrees to Singapore and Malaysia. PRAI works in 3 districts Batam, Bale Karimun, and Tanjung Pinang. PRAI has gain support from 15 individual volunteers (medical doctor, lawyer psychologist, community ethnic leaders) and 3 groups of volunters (Taxi driver groups, “Ojek” driver, waitrees groups). PRAI will intensively organize 500 more volunteers by 2009.

Optimalization of Information Technology for developing Business, Communication and Fund Raising. Banten as newly established province face difficulites on poverty problems. Many marginalised groups, such as small farmers, street children, labor groups, urban poor community, and Islamic boarding school groups are growing without proper government program to help them out from poverty line. Therefore, BAIST was established to strengthen marginalised group to help them selves through capacity building program (training, market access, and facilitation).

BAIST initate earned income activities that sell product and service both from their partner communities and organization. Some products that give contribution to sustainability of organization are Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and its processed products, books, Internet kiosk and training and consultancy services. With CBI, BAIST makes use Information technology and will develop web base store to faciliate virtual trading. This web expand the market of BAIST products and services and hopes to improve the service to the partner community as well as sustaining the organization resources.
Result
As of 2007, BAIST has its program in 5 districts with two groups of farmers, one groups of street childreen, one group of prostitute, one group urban poor community, and twelve groups of Islamic boarding school community. Through its earned income activites BAIST is able to cover 40 % its operational cost and hope to be self-reliant organization by 2009.
